crowns

A dental crown is a type of dental restoration that completely covers the visible portion of a tooth, restoring it to its normal shape and size. Crowns are typically used to repair teeth that are damaged or decayed, or to improve the appearance of teeth that are discolored or misshapen. They can be made from a variety of materials, such as metal, porcelain, or a combination of both. Crowns are typically placed and cemented by dentist onto an existing tooth.

A tooth may require a crown for a variety of reasons, including to strengthen a weak or cracked tooth, to restore a tooth that has been severely worn down, to cover and protect a tooth that has had a root canal, to hold together parts of a cracked tooth, or to improve the appearance of a discolored or misshapen tooth.

Getting a Crown at Lovda Family Dental

At Lovda Family Dental in Hoffman Estates, we offer CEREC® crowns, made the same day using precision CAD-CAM technology and the latest dental materials, such as porcelain, zirconia, and alumina. Each material is strong and durable, and it can be matched to the color of your natural teeth for maximum aesthetics. A second appointment is NOT necessary for CEREC dental crowns, and you do not receive any temporary crowns.

Dr. Lovda will first numb the area around the affected tooth, remove the decay from the tooth, and shape it to accommodate the crown. Once the decay is completely removed, a digital impression of the tooth is taken using CEREC technology. Once the computer-generated crown is quality-checked by Dr. Lovda, including all necessary adjustments, the crown is secured to the tooth using permanent dental cement.

The Lovda Family Dental team is highly experienced in creating natural-looking, long-lasting crowns. Schedule an appointment at our Hoffman Estates dental office to learn more about your crown options!
